[CRANX?VM TOR:
1. During my absence, I want you to build up a factual
chronology with attachments as appropriate to indicate in a
chronological manner everything that I personally did during
the Cuban crises, either for or against motherhood and
against or for sin.
Z. I realise the record is quite spotty but in order that
I be prepared for any further confrontation, please put together
everything you can.
3, What I have in mind is something like this (and the dates
and information are as I remember them):
August 2Z -- I discussed the problem of Cuba with con-
siderable passion at the Watch Committee meeting, told them
all to wateh It very closely, and that I intended in the following
week to put it under constant surveillance by the Watch Committee
of possible Soviet hostile action.
August Z8 ?- I directed at the Watch Committee that Cuba be
placed on the critical list for possible Soviet hostile action.
August 29 to September Z --(or thereabouts) I made two telephone
calls to General Lemnitser urging a low-level reconnaissance of
Cuba and asked him to sound out the Defense Department on this
prior to my taking it up with Special Grox,r-.
September 3 -- I mentioned the need at Special Group for additional
overflights of Cuba and particularly for low-level reconnaissance.
September 10 -- I dispatched a memorandum to Mr. McNamara
urging low-level reconnaissance of Banes and other COMOR
critical requirements.

4. The foregoing is what I have in mind. There a" many items
which occurred during the date* above which are not listed but which
you will be able to dig up in the records. Since this is a personal
chronology, I am concerned only with those periods when the Director
was not here and when I was g.cting Director. This would be from
23 August to 24 September, and several subsequent short periods
thereafter.
S. Please see what you can develop during the next week and
1 talk to you about it after that.
