The book is an outgrowth of work done some years ago by the officer when he attended the 25X1 The manuscript is now being reviewed by several senior Agenc officers to determine the propriety of publishing it. DD/I noted that 25X1 posed that the author write s contacted the author. DD/I pro- a letter stating that the book is now 25X1 being reviewed by Agency officials and that he will inform him at a later date if and when it is to be published. The Director agreed. Godfrey reported on recent incidents of reported Soviet activity in the Aleutian Islands. toted that he met with Cyrus Vance yesterday to discuss the I =. He reported that Vance was agreeable to the Agency's suggestion and stated that he would assign someone, for example, Sol Horwitz or Joe Hoover, to the problem as soon as he receives a letter from the Director on this matter. noted that he took the oppor- 25X1 tunity of his visit to discuss Project with Vance. 25X1 DD/S reported that the Ervin bill does not have any provisions for excluding the Agency. He noted, however, that it is unlikely that the bill will pass. noted that he will keep a close watch on develop- ments in the event some action would be required by the Agency. noted that he had had breakfast with Edward P. Morgan and had briefed him in preparation for his trip to Vietnam. DD/P reported on Agency activities He noted that 25X1 a letter had been received from Bob Komer and Charlie Schultze regarding responsibilities in connection with the RDC program in Vietnam. DD/P reported that, as a result of his discussions with the Executive Director, it had been decided to withdraw the proposal from the 303 Committee agenda this week. A different approach to the problem is now being worked out. The Director noted that he had read John Clarke's memorandum on the recent earing before the Russell committee with great interest. He stated that the Executive Director will talk to the committee's staffman about some of the matters discussed during the hearing. The Director informed the group of some of the discussion before the Mahon committee yesterday concerning the situation in Indonesia and expressed his concern over the prospects for the future develop- ment of that country. 1.
