Morning Meeting of 10 June 1966
DDCI was in the chair. DCI was on an official visit to the Aber-
deen Proving Ground.
DDCI opened the meeting by saying that Hayes Redmond of the
White House staff had called to commend an Agency paper done up at
short notice and sent to the White House in answer to a White House
request.
DD/I noted a White House staff request for an Agency report on
diverging views concerning the Ryukyu Islands. This request will be
met orally rather than in writing.
DD/I reported that certain changes have been made in DD/I publi-
cations concerning Vietnam. The weekly report concentrates on non-
military developments in answer to a recent request from Komer.
Military developments are covered in the daily memo and the CIB.
DD/I noted that the ORR briefing of General Maxwell Taylor yester-
day had gone well.
Godfrey briefed on the situation in Vietnam. He tabled a memorandum
concerning France, the USSR, and European security. It was agreed to
give the memorandum standard dissemination.
DD/S noted that a speed-up of Career Trainee recruitment has
enabled us to fill a class of Career Trainees for the July 25X1
course. This is the largest number in some time.
DD/S noted recent discussions between OTR officers and the staff of
the National War College. NWC staff officers had praised CIA students
and Agency support to the NWC and had made certain suggestions relating
to the day that the National War College spends on Agency premises.

Vietnam sometime in the next two weeks. deSilva reported indications

deSilva referred to three embassy cables from Saigon (5411, 5412, and
5419) which provide good information on Tri Quang, Tam Chau, and
Buddhist sentiment.
deSilva suggested and received approval to mention to Komer the
possibility of a Presidential request that Ambassador Lodge begin to
declassify information relating to recent accomplishments in Vietnam.

relating to the recent CBS news broadcast by Marvin Kalb and that this
and related material would be sent to Senator Russell this morning.
