DD/I reported that Morell and Brandwein briefed Ambassador Thompson on the ChiCom advanced weapons test program. The Ambas- sador intends to propose to Secretary Rusk that he (the Ambassador) be kept up to date by the Agency on the Chinese test program with a view to discussing this subject with Ambassador Dobrynin. The Director thought this is an angle worth trying. Kent briefed the Director on problems involving the South-West Africa Estimate and noted that it will be ready for USIB a week from tomorrow. Carver reported that Moyers' office has asked him for information on the effectiveness of the bombing of North Vietnam. Carver had called attention to the joint CIA/DIA monthly reports on this subject. He alerted the Director that office is engaged in a cost- 25X1 effectiveness study of the bombing. -DD discussed the likely schedule o future missions.
