Approved For Release 2009/04/10: CIA-RDP80BO1676R001500090074-4 %owe 11 February 1966 Morning Meeting of 11 February 1966 The DCI opened the meeting by asking the status of work being done in response to the President's personal request to the DCI yesterday to provide certain factual information concerning the Dominican Republic. Both DD/I and DD/P are at work on this, will continue their work over the weekend, and aim to have a report in hand on 14 February. The thrust of the report, said the DCI, is to show that the American landing of military forces last April was a decision taken to protect American nationals in the face of a break- down of law and order and not due to the Communist participation in the disorders. The level and extent of Communist participation surfaced later, after the decision had been made. The DCI commented on an interesting breakfast meeting with Representative Moorhead. DCI said that he had encountered various friends from the news media at a social event last night and that these friends said that the Agency was held in high respect. DD/P noted that the New York Times article on the Agency is due to be printed on 14 February. It was also agreed that DD/I representatives can join the DCI's tour if arrangements permit. (See Action 1) Godfrey noted the DCI's interest, upon being briefed earlier this morning, in the flight of a Soviet transport carrying North Vietnamese from Hanoi to Peking. This flight and its implications are under study. (At this point the DCI left the meeting to address the Midcareer Course. ) DD/S noted growing traffic problems during rush hours at Agency entrances and said a study is under way to ease the flow. ACTIONS: 1. DCI requests that the CIA Director of Reconnaissance work up background and suggestions for the DCI's use during his forthcoming tour of West Coast space facilities.
