Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2010/12/29: CIA-RDP80B01676RO01900100036-4 Bloc Shipping to and from Cuba 21 November 1962 As of 0600 EST there were 22 Bloc ships en route Cuba. Included in this total are 12 Soviet dry cargo ships, 1 re- frigerator ship, 5 tankers;-3 passenger ships and 1 East German dry cargo ship. Of the Soviet ships, 1 passenger ship, the GRUZIYA, is scheduled to arrive in Havana tomorrow. Another Soviet ship, the USSURIJSK, which loaded 7,500 tons of metal products in the Black Sea, is presently load- ing 3,500 tons of gunny sacks in Oran, all destined for Cuba. These sacks were offloaded by a non-bloc ship in Oran after owners refused to proceed to Cuba. Other Soviet ships are scheduled to load the remaining sacks soon. At present there are 10 Soviet ships and 2 satellite ships in Cuban ports. Of these, the ORENBURG, OKHOTSK, and the BELOVODSK, have large hatches. In addition to the ships en route to Cuba or in Cuban ports, there are 12 Soviet dry cargo ships and 6 tankers re- turning to the USSR. Among those returning are the 11 ships carrying missiles and related equipment. Five of the mis- sile carriers--the DIVNOGORSK, FIZIK KURCHATOV, LABINSK, L.KNINSKY KOMSOMOL and MFTALLURG ANASOV--are returning to Black Sea ports. Five are returning to the Baltic Sea area-- ALAPAEVSK ALEKSANDROVSK, ALMETEVSK, BRATSK and VOLGOLES. The destination of the remaining ship, the IVAN POLZUNOV, has not yet been determined.. The known cargoes and estimated time of arrival of the large-hatch ships now en route Cuba are shown in the attached table.
