Approved For Release 2003/051,1676R002300060023-8 Thursday, 9 August 1951 Colonel Hansen stated that the Counsel of the McCarran Committee had talked to Mr. Wisner and Mr. Pforzheimer yesterday and it now appears that in all probability it will not be necessary for Mr. Wisner to appear before the Committee. Mr. Reber reported that he and Mr. had informally dis- cussed with the Director and Deputy Direc or, OIR, the production of NE's, and in particular the length of time required to produce these studies. Mr. noted that he had already discussed this problem with Mr. planned to go into this matter when he conducts the survey of ONE. Mr. Reber emphasized that his discussion with State was purely in- formal and had been raised by the State representative, stated that the Watch Committee had prepared a comprehensive report on the rash of rumors of the possibility of World War III beginning in September. Also, ONE had prepared a crash estimate on this matter which would be discussed at today's IA.C Meeting. Mr. stated that a request had been received from Mr. Lovett for an estimate covering Soviet reactions to the US - Japanese security treaty. ONE has prepared a preliminary paper on this subject which will be discussed at today's IAC Meeting. 25X1 25X1 ILLEGIB Approved For Release 2003/0,j;,~lt~,q,p.,$ Q1676R002300060023-8
