SUBJECT: Resume of OCB Luncheon Meeting, 9 September 1959
PRESENT: Mr. Allen, Mr. Dulles, Mr. Gray, Mr. Harr, Mr. McCone
Mr. Murphy, Mr. Saccio, Mr. Scribner, Mr. Smith
1. President's Trip to Europe
Mr. Murphy told the Board about some of the activities of the
President and his party during the recent European trip. He indicated,
among other things, that the State Department does not yet have any
official document summarizing the results of the President's discussion
with de Gaulle.
2. Khrushchev Visit to the U. S.
The rest of the meeting was devoted to a discussion of various
aspects of the pending visit of Nikita Khrushchev to this country. Some
of the members expressed concern about the possible danger of
Khrushchev's using his visit as an opportunity to propagandize the
American people and the rest of the world. In this connection, it was
pointed out that the President has no intention of allowing the visitor to
conduct himself in this way, but rather proposes that he be questioned
directly and acutely on the various allegations he might make as well as
those he has already made in such forums as Fore n Affairs. Plans
are also under way to assure continuing pressure/on Mr. )Khrushchev on
such vulnerable points as Hungary, Tibet, etc. ,
