Mr. Allen, Mr. Cutler, Mr. Dearborn, Mr. Dull? Mr. Herter, Mr. Scribner, Mr. Smith, Mr. Spray Mr. Stassen, Mr. Strauss, Mr. Staats 1. Indonesia Mr. Dulles gave a brief report on late developments in Indonesia. He referred particularly to indications that the Ban Council proposes to establish a Free Government of Indonesia, and said that while he believes a move of this sort would be pre mature, there is probably little that we can or should do to try to stop it. Mr. Herter referred to the efforts of the Indonesian government to obtain arms from the West. It was 4greed it we be unwise to supply arms so long as the possibility exists that ' government might become communist- dominated. 2. British Advances in Control of Thermo-nuclear Ener Mr. Strauss discussed the current controversy about pub relating to the progress that the British have made in the field controlled thermo-nuclear energy. He said that the British are in fact ahead of the U. S. in this field but that both have achieve about equal results along somewhat parallel lines. Mr. Straus said that it had been agreed that the results of British experimi would be described in the January 24 issue of the British public "Nature"; British and American publications will then pick up t article for replay in both countries. Mr. Strauss hoped that th would stop the speculation and gossip on this subject. NSC review(s) completed. He said that reports from Ambassador Bohlen and more recently from Ambassador Thompson have indicated that there is no effective program for air raid shelters underway in the USSR. Mr. Scribner said that he understood that CIA had published one or two estimates which indicated that the Russians did in fact have a program of this nature. Mr. Dulles stated that he believed that they do have some sort of program but it was not a very dramatic one; however, he said he would look into the matter and he agreed to get Mr. Scribner a summary of what had been produced. 4. South Moluccas Government Mr. Dulles was asked what he knew about the "Government of the South Moluccas". He replied that he had heard reports from time to time about this but was not completely current on it. He said he would have a report for an early meeting.
