The State representatives at yesterday's meeting
tell us that the President expressed his desire for a
Community estimate on Ceylon -- in effect an updating
of SNIE 33-63 of March 27, 1963. Since we have not
heard anything more, I thought it well to write and
make sure that there has not been a slip in this matter.
We feel that the oil issue, the consolidation of
the left, and the Buddhist anti-US moves all amount
to a disturbing situation which we might well inspect.
We shall be happy to contribute as usual to a Com-
munity estimate.
