Mr. John A. McCone
Director
Central Intelligence Agency
Washington 25, D. C.
Dear Mr. McCone
We are very grateful for Mr. Lyman B. Kirkpatrick's
presentation before the Air Force Intelligence Reserve
Officers' Seminar last Friday, 5 October 1962. Comments by
my associates who were privileged to attend underscored the
interesting and provocative manner of his presentation of
the historic evolution of the mission of the Central
Intelligence Agency.
This subject is at best a difficult one to delineate in all
the necessary detail because of security reasons and also
due to the inherent complexity of the multi-faceted
relationship between the CIA and the military departments.
The unanimous consensus is that Mr. Kirkpatrick brought it
off magnificently. At the same time, he conveyed the message
that military Intelligence is rooted in change and that we
in the Community must adapt our craft to the ever-changing
requirements imposed by national policy-making if we are to
serve at a continued high level of effectiveness.
Thank you for making it possible for him to take the time
away from his very busy schedule to help us carry the word
to Air Force Intelligence Reservists. Also, please convey
to him our deep appreciation for an outstanding presentation.
Sincerely
