DEPARTMENT OF THE AIR FORM,
HEADQUARTERS UNITED STATES AIR FORCE
WASHINGTON 25, D.C.
Honorable John A. McCone
Chairman, U.S. Intelligence Board
Headquarters CIA
Washington 25, D. C.
Dear Mr. Chairman
My assignment as Assistant Chief of Staff, Intelligence, USAF is being
terminated as of 15 March. Brigadier General Thomas will become
the ACS/I on that date. He is well known to you and the members of
USIB and I am sure you agree that he is extremely well qualified to
represent the USAF in the intelligence sphere.
I take this opportunity to thank you and the Board for your kindness and
helpfulness to me during my service as a member of USIB. I am sin-
cerely proud to have worked with the USIB and its predecessor, the LAC.
I admire the dedication, the selflessness, the perception and the courage
with which the USIB has done its job under your leadership and that of
Mr. Dulles. That much of its contribution to national security goes unsung
only adds to the remarkableness of its complete devotion to the task.
As I move to the unfamiliar role of intelligence consumer, I can assure
you that my interest in and appreciation of the products of intelligence
work will be far keener by virtue of my past assignment. The very best
of everything to you and all of the U. S. Intelligence Board -- and, once
again, my warm thanks.
Sincerely
Mat General, USAF
Ass ant Chief of Staff, Intelligence
