SUBJECTS CIA Research Board
1. You recently requested information on the current status
and membersh of the Research Board srgaaized and headed for ten
years by I am appending a list of 25X1
the members of the Board, together with brief &*counts of their
backgrounds.
2. I lare new members of the 25X1
Board. They very recen consented serve and have neither been
briefed on the Agency nor have they yet attended any meetings of.
the Board. The other Board members have served at least for the
caast three years.
3. Prior to the establishment of the Office of the Deputy
Director (Research), the Research Board Uts administered and managed
by TSD, and is consequently more conversant with the problems of the
Clandestine Services than with those of CIA as a whole. The Board+e
pattern has been to meet twice a year, during which meetings they
are briefed on various research and development problems. Suggested
solutions were usually made later through who 25X1
relayed them to TSD. If the approach seemed promising, D engi-
neers would follow up through direct contact with the Board members.
in addition, TSD found several of the individual Board members moat
useful in providing access to the scientific resources of their
companies.
b. Should you desire to continue this Research Board with its
event form I would recond 25X1
