This memorandum is for information only.
2. Pursuant to your request. I have arranged a meeting for
you with Mr. Cannon next Monday at two o'clock. I understood that
you would like to discuss with him (a) your trip to Southeast Asia,
(b) the Taiwan gaits problem and (c) the need for further intelligence
requiring use of U.2s.
3. 1 would think you might well wish to mention to him the
recent Soviet missile firings from submarines.

4. Subsequent to the receipt of Cannon's letter to you of
16 April 1962, you discussed this problem with him. On 1 June 1962,
Cannon advised General Carter that the Committee had approved our
budget request as submitted and. consequently. we could disregard the
letter of 16 April. It appears appropriate to request from Mr. Cannon
a letter reflecting the Committee's final decision. Also, during the
period Cannon was studying the budget he requested and received on
3 TAftl&V PW a copy of our budget in the form of a notebook entitled
"House Notes" (sa lj,$ttached). Since this is a very revealing
document it woul&b be, pful if you could remind Mr. Cannon that
