1. The Recommendations of the subject IG Report
are approved, except for Recommendation "G", and their
implementation is hereby directed. With respect to
"G", the DD/P is requested to reconsider this matter
if and when the "Operations Support Staff" is constituted.
2. I consider the excellent report by the IG and
the reaction thereto by the DD/P as exemplified in his
referenced "Comments", to be a commendable example of the
constructive exploitation of the function of the IG.

1? RENCE: Memorandum from the DCI to the DD/P,
this Subject, dated 18 August 1955
1. The report of the Inspector General's survey of cover
facilities is a comprehensive and accurate reflection of the present
status of Agency cover offices. It properly indicates that steps
have been taken, since the general problem was assigned to its
present responsible officer in October of 1954, to correct some of
the deficiencies which had previously existed; and it also makes
recommendations for further action, several of which were already
underway at the time the survey was conducted.
The Inspector General's report places considerable stress
