Dear Mr. Deunis#eae-:
I sin presumug to write to you concerning your present search
for the alumnus who best ezemplifiss Woodrow Wilson's concept of
"]Princeton in the, Nation's Service".
I am suggesting the name at a man v he I hops `bas been sug-
gested by many others but who did not. appear on thus October Z, 1961
list of candidates stready suggested. The name which I wish to put
forward is that of Allen W. Dallas. As you may knew, be has served
every President of the United States since Woodrow Wilson and in my
humble opinion eplifies the concept of "Princeton in the Nation's
Service" in its very best tradition. I recognise that perhaps one
problem in Mr. ladles' candidacy might be a feeling that intelligence
work was inconsistent with some of President Wilson's views. I
would like to suggest that intelligence work is a rd and honer-
able profession throughout the years and perhaps ons'o1 the most
essential of governmental activities in this partioulas day and age.
Allen Dudes represents perhaps the finest intelligence officer. over
developed by the United States. His accomplishments ST
during World War n produced for our Government the most sig cant
information obtained from perhaps any source during the entire war.
He has served his Government at great personal sacrifice over a long
period of time.

I eould go on at?great length but perhaps it would serve the
present purpose simply making the suggestion for his consideration.
Sincerely yours,
Lyman B. Kirkpatrick. Jr., '34

Dear Trustee of Princeton:
Would you be kind enough to submit the names
of Princetonians you think worthy of receiving the Woodrow
Wilson Award which, as you know, is presented annually at
the meeting of the National Alumni Association in February
to that alumnus who best exemplifies Woodrow Wilson's
concept of "Princeton in the Nation's Service."
The selection committee is made up each year of the
President of the Woodrow Wilson Foundation, the Director of the
Woodrow Wilson School in Princeton, and the Chairman of the
Alumni Council. As I am certain you also know, the committee
has adopted a broad concept of the nation's service, not in
any way limiting their selection to those in Government service.
As it is the Committee's desire to have available
as complete a list of distinguished Princetonians as are
eligible, it will be greatly appreciated if you will give this
your careful attention, advising me not later than November I
of your suggestion and the reasons why you feel the person
suggested is eligible. For your information, a list of
candidates already suggested is enclosed.
Sincerely,
C.
George C. Denniston
