I am d ply grateful for your thoughtful message
of s thy in the passing of my beloved wife.
Throughout all our long years together she was
an integral part of my career, as well as my
personal life so that her leave-taking has left
a deep void. Yet I must be thankful that her
long months of suffering, so courageously borne,
are at an end.
I am happy to learn of your pleasure with the
portraits I made of you for PARADE Magazine;
from my point of view however I was greatly
disturbed by the inadequate and restricted space
in which I had to work. I do hope that on one of
my frequent visits to Washington you may give me
the pleasure of another sitting, either in your
home or some other interesting location. I shall
look forward to hearing from you in this connection.
Meanwhile, I send you my renewed thanks for your
thoughtfulness.
