Dear Mr. Dulles:
It is a great pleasure to inform you that Mr. Lyman
Brickford Kirkpatrick, Jr., Inspector General in the
Central Intelligence Agency, has been selected as one
of the ten recipients of the National Civil Service
League's 1960 Career Service Awards.
Mr. Kirkpatrick was chosen from among 64 nominees
because of his unusual competence, Character, and
achievements typifying the highest principles of
the public service. Aside from honoring the indi-
viduals concerned, we believe public recognition
of such outstanding careers highlights in general
the importance of good government in our national
life.
The ten award winners will be honored at a dinner on
March 15, in Washington) at the Sheraton-Park Hotel.
We sincerely hope that you will reserve this date to
join us in publicly recognizing Mr.Kirkpatrick. In
fact, we should like to consider you a member of a
Washington Sponsorship Committee for the Awards
Banquet. May we list you on the program in this
capacity? To represent your department we should
like for you to designate a representative to col-
laborate with us in publicity and banquet attendance
promotion.
We would appreciate your withholding any public an-
nouncement of Mr. Kirkpatrick's selection until the
League has made an official mlnouncement.
Sincerely years,
Nicholas Kelley
