With further reference to our correspondence
regarding the story of "Pandora`s box", following
my return from an extended overseas trip I dis-
cussed this matter with others in the Agency and,
after thinking it over very carefully, decided It
would not be proper or expedient tq have my name

in my present position for a more extended period.
I really appreciate your suggestion and would
very much like to see the article prim, However
I desist to follow the recommended policy of not
making public speeches, receiving honorary degrees,
atteg Commencement exercises or writing
articles for the press, at least for the present.

Dear Dick:
Upon my return from a short trip to Europe, I found that
you had called me from New York. 1 am sorry to have missed your
call.
In about ten days from now I shall be turning over this desk
to John McCone. However, I shall probably be in Washington for
several weeks at least, possibly longer, but I am rather thinking of
returning to New York and law practice sometime next year. Also,
I have some thoughts about some writing I would like to do -- not
memoirs or relating to my recent work, but something more basic
in the field of what the communists are up to and haw they are going
about it.
I hope to see you if you are in this part of the country. or
if I, myself, get to Los Angeles.
