Approved For Release 2002/07/29 : CIA-RDP80BO1676R003500190003-3 is October 1961 - - - - ------------- The Ronorable Richard Nixon 1035 Pacific Mutual Building 523 West Sixth Street Los Angeles 14, California Dear Dick: I deeply appreciated your letter of 6 October. It will be quite a wrench to leave this job but I feel that for many reasons this is a good time to turn over the work to a successor, and I fed that we are all fortunate that john McCone will be carrying on here. We shall be working together for thu next month or so before he takes over and probably shall melee a trip abroad together so that he can get some Idea of our particular problems and our assets. I have no very definite plans for the fire but I may well resume law practice with the old firm in New York. and I may also do some writing, not about my work here. but more probably an analysis of what I have learned over the last ton years about the nature of the Communist threat and the apparatus they have developed to project it against us. At any rate I should welcome a chance to talk with you. If I get to California, I shall let you know and would hope you would give me a call if you are in the East. Clover joins me in sending all our best wishes to Pat and to you. Sincerely. AWD/ ji 1 - DCI - retirement file Allen W.
