Approved For Release 2002/08/21 : CIA-RDP80BO1676R003600120071-4 ag March 1960 -L Mr. Henry A. Laughlin, President Houghton Mifflin Company 2 Park Street Boston, Massachusetts Dear Henry: It was very thoughtful of you to send me a copy of #den'a Memoirs. As you can well understand I have mixed feelings about certain parts of this particular book. I doubt whether the author's presentation of Suez will go down as "history,'. Tragically# he is an embittered man and it might have been bettor if he had written his book at a later date. In the early 130. 1 got to know him extremely well when we were together for many months in Geneva at the disarmament discussions during the League of Nations days. Then I had a high regard for him. Hs had many fine qualities. I always felt that his declining health and other personal problems had greatly affected his effectiveness during the late years. In any event I appreciate your thought in sending me the book and I have been reading it with interest. Sincerely. AWD/ji 1 - DCI w/book-' i - AAB 1 - ER SIGNED Allen W.
