IMMEDIATE RELEASE FEBRUARY 16, 1953
JAMES C. HAGERTY, PRESS SECRETARY TO THE PRESIDENT
THE WHITE HOUSE
The President today appointed C. D. Jackson, of New York
City, as Special Assistant to the President, with special re-
sponsibilities in the "cold war" planning of this Administra-
tion, it was announced by Sherman Adams, the Assistant to the President.
As Spwial Assistant to the President Mr. Jackson will
serve as liaison between the various government departments
and agencies active in this area.
During World War II Mr. Jackson was Deputy Chief of
Psychological Warfare in Allied Forces Headquarters in North
Africa under General Eisenhower and later was Deputy Chief
of Psychological Warfare, SHAEF, for "Operation Overlord" --
the invasion of Continental Europe.
Born in New York City on March 16, 1902, Mr. Jackson
was graduated from Princeton University in 1924. From 1924
to 1931 he headed the firm of C. D. Jackson and Company of
New York, importers of building materials.
In 1931 he joined Time Inc. as Assistant to the
President. He subsequently served as General Manager of
Life Magazine; Vice-President of Time Inc.; Managing
IDirector of Times-Life International; and publisher of
Fortune Magazine. He resigned as publisher to accept Presi-
dent Eisenhower's appointment.
During the 1952 Campaign Mr. Jackson was in charge of
the research-speech preparation staff at Eisenhower.
Headquarters at the Hotel Commodore in New York City. On
January 26th the President appointed Mr_, Jackson as a member
of the President's Committee on International Information
Activities, as a representative of the Secretary of State.
Mr. Jackson married the former Miss Grace Bristed, of
New York City, in 1931. They reside at 400 East 59th Street,
New York City. In Washington, Mr. and Mrs. Jackson will live
at 3315 Rowland Place, N. W.
