SUBJECT: Signature Cards for the President's
Official Portrait
1. Action Requested: It is respectfully requested
that you take the necessary action to obtain the comments
and signature of the President on the attached signature
cards.
2. Background:
a. On the first floor of the Headquarters
Building is an area, known as President's Row,
where the official photographs of each of the
Presidents are displayed, beginning with Presi-
dent Truman. Beneath each photograph, there is
a comment about the Agency, along with the
respective President's signature. In the past,
the portrait of the President which has hung in
the DCI Conference Room on the seventh floor has,
been treated similarly.

b. Some suggested comments are:
"I am impressed with the professional-
ism and responsiveness of the CIA. I
think if all Americans knew what I know,
there would be an alleviation of concern."
(Paraphase from the President's remarks
at the Cabinet Family Presentation at the
White House, 12 April 1977.)
"I have a much surer sense of making
right decisions about our own national
security because of my growing trust in
the capability of the CIA...." (Excerpt
from the President's remarks at the above-
noted presentation.)
3. Recommendation: It is requested that you obtain
the Presi ent's comments qnd signatures pn the attached cards
