MEMORANDUM FOR: Assistant for Information, DDA
VIA: Chief, Information Systems Analysis Staff
Deputy Chief, Records Review Branch
SUBJECT: OSS Declassification Review
1. The attached list cites a number of OSS documents which CIA
reviewers have determined require continued protection. In accordance
with Section 5(E)(2) of Executive Order 11652 and Section II, D of the
National Security Council Directive of May 17, 1972, continued pro-
tection can only be authorized by the Director of Central Intelligence.
This authority may not be delegated. It is, therefore, requested that
these 325 forms be forwarded to the Director with a covering letter for
signature authorizing continued protection.
2. The documents were reviewed by the OSS declassification team
headed byl 1. This represents three years of work on
their part. They have completed approximately 22% of the project
during which they. declassified 88% of the material encountered. They
have yet to, however, release any of this material to the public.
