The following is a synopsis of related Intelligence Community mechanisms for your information: Alert Memorandum (AM) [Tab B]. An interagency publication issued by the DCI on behalf of the Community. It provides explicit warning of possible developments abroad of major concern to the US and is addressed to SCC members and disseminated also to NFIB principals and other Washington and field organizations, as appropriate. In addition to covering t:,,2 subject of the warning, the AM will outline special measures being taken to ensure more effective coverage of the situation. Strategic Warning Notice [TAB C]. A special report prepared by the Special Assistant for Strategic Warning and issued by the DCI when, in his judgment, there is evidence that the USSR, the PRC or North Korea is considering military action beyond its borders. National Intelligence Situation Report [Tab D]. This is not yet formally implemented, but was used during the Korean chopping crisis. At the outset of a crisis or other period of intense international activity, the DCI may designate an NFIB agency (normally CIA) to serve as executive agent for preparation of a single, compre- hensive National Intelligence Situation Report to be issued periodically in support of high-level National consumers.
