Dear Admiral Turner: OCT 2 8 1977 On behalf of the officers of Foreign Area Officer Course 2-77, I would like to express our sincere appreciation for the Central Intelligence Agency's series of excellent presentations during our recent Interdepartmental Agency Field Trip. From all reports, the day spent with your people was unani- mously considered to be the highlight of the week's events. Perhaps the two elements which most impressed our officers were the candor and enthusiasm of all the briefers and the manner in which the day was organized. Special recognition is directed to for their efficient coordination and conduct ot theprogram. The wives of the officers likewise were impressed by the warm reception and extremely informative presentation which TAT they received from In closing, let me reemphasize our gratitude for your personal support of the educational mission of the Institute for Military Assistance. The interest in our educational mission displayed by the Agency adds considerable credibil- ity to our program. Sincerely, JACK V. MACKMULL Major General, USA Commandant Admiral Stansfield Turner Director Central Intelligence,A Washington, D.C.!. 2050 Approved Feolease 2004/03/11 : CIA-RDP80M001~0017001 _' V,, DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY UNITED STATES ARMY INSTITUTE FOR MILITARY ASSISTANCE FORT RAGG, NORTH CAROLINA 28307 Approved For Release 2004/03/11 : CIA-RDP80M00165AO01700100002-4 Approved For Release 2004/03/11 : CIA-RDP80M00165AO01700100002-4 EXECUTIVE SECRETARIAT Routing Slip Approved For Release 2004/03/11 : CIA-RDP80M00165AO01700100002-4 Approved Release 2004/031 ?t1: CIA-RDP80MOS5AO01700100002-4 '!. Central Intelligence Agency Major General Jack V. Mackmull Commandant, U.S. Army Institute for Military Assistance Fort Bragg, NC 28307 7 September 1977 A visit from the Foreign Area Officers to CIA is always welcome, and we look forward to having the officers and accompanying faculty and staff here on 6 October from 0900 to 1500. I understand that the Office of Training is expecting you, and I know they will make every effort to make the day a profitable one. As you know, we are in the midst of change in the organization of the Intelligence Community. With my present heavy schedule, it seems unlikely that I shall be able to participate in your program, much as I would enjoy meeting your officers. My colleagues will do their best, however, to bring them abreast of developments in the Community. Mrs. Turner and I appreciate your invitation to the cocktail party at Fort McNair and regret that present circumstances make it doubtful that we can attend. I am gratified by your continued interest in our work. Arrangements for your visit are in the hands of our Special STAT Programs Officer, who can be reached on STAT 6 he will be glad to help you in any way she can in preparation for your visit. These officers are being prepared for a variety of politico-military assignments both in the United States and abroad. As in the past, I would like to respectfully request the assistance of your office in arranging for a series of briefings for these officers on the Central Intelligence Agency. Previous classes have singled out the CIA portion of the itinerary as most enlightening and informative and I would like to afford this present class the same opportunity to hear about the Agency's vital role in the national intel- ligence effort. A member of my staff has already contacted your Office of Training about suitable dates and has tenta- tively identified 6 October. With your approval, I would like to include the CIA presentation in our itinerary for 6 October from 0900 to 1500 hours. If these arrangements are convenient for you, I know the officers would very much appreciate hearing your comments on the present status of the intelligence community. In order to guarantee that our week in Washington is not all work, we have planned an informal cocktail party at the Fort McNair Officers' Open Mess on 3 October from 1930 to 2130 hours. We would be honored if you and Mrs. Turner would join us and.other Washington area friends of the Institute for a few relaxing hours of good company and spirited conversation. If you should have any questions about either this request or the invitation, please have a member of your staff contact Colonel Raymond Maladowitz at AC 919 396-7809/2415.
