Blake Deputy Director for Administration SUBJECT: Honorary Membership of.the International Club of Washington, D.C., Inc. 1. Action Requested: This memorandum is for your information concerning an invitation which we understand will he extended to you to become an Honorary Member of the International Club of Washington, D.C., Inc., 1800 K. Street, N.W. Background: a. Mr. Luis F. Corea, President of the International Club, formerly Senior Vice President and Manager of the International Department, Riggs National Bank, has indicated informally to Mr. William Owens, Chief, Monetary Division, Office of Finance that he plans to extend an invitation to you to become an Honorary Member of the International Club. Mr. Corea was of material assistance to the Agency in banking matters from 1952 until his retirement in 1974. b. The membership of the Club, incorporated in 1964, is comprised principally of members of the diplomatic community, international organizations and commercial organizations of the Washington Metropolitan Area. (Attached is a brochure - objectives of the Club stated on page 38.) It has been customary for the Club to extend invitations for honorary membership to members of the President's Cabinet, Chief of Protocol, Chief, USIA and other senior officials. Mr. William Colby accepted honorary membership. during his tenure as Director of Central Intelligence: Mr. Helms declined membership and we understand invitations were not extended to Mr. Schlesinger and Mr. Bush since the invitations are usually made on the occasion of new administrations. /6/John F.
