Dear Lew,
I have just returned from a ten-day trip out
of the country to find your letter of August 29th,
inviting me to address the San Diego Council of
the Navy League. I am very much aware of the
splendid job the Navy League does in supporting
our Navy, particularly in the San Diego area.
Much as I would like to join you and my
many other friends to discuss issues of vital
concern to all of us, unfortunately I don't see
how that will be possible since I don't have any
trips planned to the San Diego area in the near
future.

On behalf of the officers and-dire-ctors of-the San. Diego
Council, U.S. Navy League, I would like to invite you to
speak at either our J4nuary, February or March, 1978 monthly
meeting to be held at the Atlantis restaurant on beautiful
Mission Bay.
I know how busy you must be, Stan, trying to shore up the
flotsam and jetsom of two prior administrations, and respond
to Senate inquiries, such as the San Francisco "Safe house",
along with the Chile caper and consolidation, ad infinitum.
But, without divulging any secrets as to current CIA plans,
we would be pleased and honored to have you address our
distinguished group ofinembers at one of next year's meetings.
Let me know which date in either of the first three months
would be best for you, and if you wish it at noon (our regu-
lar hour) or in the evening. We will, of course, have Adm.
Haley Rogers, 11th NavDist, Adm. Wm. R. St. George, your dau-
ghter and her husband, and other friends from our local commands
there to greet you.
It would be great, personally, to see you again, Stan, and
renew old times. Keep up the good work, and let us hear
