Jacobsen World Affairs Council Post Office Box 112 Riverside, California 92502 Dear Ms. Jacobsen: Admiral Turner has asked me to thank you for your letter of 28 November, and for your kind invitation for him to address the World Affairs Council of Inland Southern California. While the Admiral greatly appreciates your thinking of him, it is Just impossible to accept. He has so many events already scheduled far into 1978 that it is not feasible to take on any additional commitments. He appreciates you thinking of him, however, and wishes you the very best for a happy and successful new year. Sincerely, Herbert E. C. 20305 Execufivo Rcobstry Every member of the World Affairs Council group joins me in thanking you for meeting with us and giving us your personal assessment of the intelligence issues facing the nation. Based on your briefing to us, we are much better prepared to appreciate the signifigance of changes in the organization and direction of intelligence activities. Our group was small, just two dozen, but the Council executive directors represent citizen education groups in the major population centers of the country. I wish to extend to you an invitation to address a major meeting of the World Affairs Council in your,,,ho.nor, hopefully this winter or early spring. We would have a large audience of the business and academic leaders of the communities in inland Southern California -- Riverside, San Bernardino, and extending from Pomona to Palm Springs. The Council is a nonpartisan educational organization with a membership of about one thousand. A list of speakers at major meetings and at college seminars during 1976- 77 is enclosed. Having met you, and had the pleasure of hearing you in person, I am even more anxious to have you meet with our Council membership. We can accomodate to almost any day which is acceptable to you, although dinner meetings on week nights are preferable. I can also arrange network television interviews, press and so on, and would also be happy to coordinate a schedule including Los Angeles or San Francisco World Affairs Councils, if you are interested in speaking there. c':s P.O.
