This note is to thank you and the Agency once?
again for all your help in my brief tenure as DCI-
designate and to confirm my telephone request to you of
three weeks ago -- namely, that each of the secretaries,
lawyers, assistants, security personnel, kitchen staff,
drivers and others who gave so unstintingly of their
time and talent during some very long nights and days
receive a special word of thanks. I only regret that I
cannot write each of them individually.
I regret as well that their work was in the
end for naught, and that I will not have the privilege
of working with you, I and all the deputies
and senior staff whom I.met and with whom I was so
favorably impressed. Please convey my thanks, regrets
and best wishes to all of them, and to Dan my hope in
addition that his wife is speedily recovering.

Sincerely,)
Theodore C. Sorensen
Again, my personal thanks to you, Hank.

Dear Ted:
0
Thank you so much for your warm letter of
February 7. I, too, am sorry we will not be working
together in an Agency that has endured much but that
perseveres with a deep sense of its ability to contri-
bute constructively to our Government and our society.
I have indeed passed word of your tribute to those
you met here and I attach a copy of an Employee Bulletin
circulated the very day you asked me to pass the word.
All of us wish you and Mrs. Sorensen nothing but
the best for the future. When you pass through our
town, please call and plan on dropping by. You are more
than welcome.
Faithfully yours,
E. H. Knoche
Acting Director
