SUBJECT: Development of Analytic Techniques
1. The development of analytic techniques for intelligence
purposes has been an activity of high priority in the DDT area
for several years. The areas ticked below represent subjects which
engage substantial DDI analytical resources:
-- Our strategic and economic research offices have
used innovative approaches to complex intelligence
problems.
-- The Methods and Forecasting Division in the Office
of Regional and Political Analysis studies analytic
techniques employed by academia and industry, and
then tests, adapts, and applies selected techniques
to the needs of political intelligence
We could brief you on the specifics of these activities if you
would like.
2. Some ORPA techniques are quantitative-and computer-based
procedures; other use the collective expertise of CIA analysts, e.g.,

projects, but we are aided by the Office of Research and Development..

our analytical techniques and indeed will be devoting substantial
effort and funding in our program planning.
