Harold C. Donnelly has been Manager of the Atomic Energy
Commission's Albuquerque (New Mexico) Operations complex since
August 1968, shortly after his retirement from the U.S. Air
Force as-a Lieutenant General. He was born in Lynn, Massa-
chusetts, on February 1, 1910, and was graduated from the
U.S. Military Academy on June 13, 1933, with a Bachelor of
Science degree, and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in
the Coast Artillery.
General Donnelly had five assignments in the nuclear
weapons field during his 35 years of military service. Upon
graduation in July 1949 from the Air War College he served
.in the Office of the Assistant for Atomic Energy, Air Force
Headquarters. In February 1951 he was named Chief of Staff
Armed Forces Special Weapons Project, which was the predecessor
of the Defense Atomic Support Agency (DASA). On July 1, 1960,
he assumed duties as Commander, DASA, at Sandia Base (now
Kirtland Air Force Base), Albuquerque. In 1963, he returned
to the Pentagon for a research and dtevelopment assignment
during which time he served on the Military Liaison Committee
to the AEC, and in January 1964 he became Director, DASA,
Washington, D.C. During World War I'I, he served in the
China-Burma-India Theater as Executive to the Deputy Supreme
Allied Commander, Southeast Asia Command, and as Deputy Chief
of Staff and then Chief of Staff, India-Burma Theater. In
1954, he joined Supreme Allied Headquarters as Special
Assistant to the Air Deputy and then was named Chief, Plans
and Policy Branch, Plans and Policy Division, SHAPE.
General Donnelly is active in civic affairs. He and
his wife, Dorothy, have two married daughters, both living
in Hawaii.
