REPLY TO
ATTN OF:
To: Mr. William E. Colby
Director of Central Intelligence
Central Intelligence Agency

Dear Mr. Colby
1.4 May 1974
Just a brief note to let you know that we greatly appreciated your
recent visit to the Academy. We have shown the T.V. tape to the 900
cadets in our international politics course with very good results.
Many of the cadets were disappointed that they were unable to hear you
in person and ask you questions. All of the cadets who heard your
presentation, whether live or on T.V., were very impressed I believe
that they now have a better appreciation of the C.I.A. and its role in
the intelligence cmtunity.
We were sorry to see that our local newspaper blatantly took advantage
of your courtesy and violated the ground rule of "non attribution" which
you set down at the outset of your talk. We discussed the matter with
the editor of the paper, but because the damage had already
been done, the conversation was not very productive.
Please find attached a copy of the John Leacacos article we discussed
at the Officers' Club. The article basically deals with the Kissinger
Apparat at the NSC, however, Mr. Leacacos does have several camTents
regarding intelligence and C.I.A. The bulk of the remarks pertaining
to intelligence appear on pages 196, 197, and 198.
While at the Officers' Club, you mentioned sane special photographs. -J'
Would it be possible to get samples of that type of photograph? We ---
would very much like to show such materials to the cadets during the
military training phase of their studies.
Again, our thanks for taking time out from your busy schedule to visit
the Academy. We hope that it will be possible for you to return to
"Colorful Colorado" and the Academy in the future.
Sincerely
echmd
