I know that you sometimes feel we lack objectivity in putting
our positions forward on matters of this nature. In this case, you
need to be aware that there are very strong feelings in the DDI, and
I think you would find very little, if any, divergence from the point
of view expressed herein.- Adams' complaints were investigated (not
only within CIA but by the House and Senate [Pike and Church] Committees
as well) in great detail and - in a nutshell - we have here an analyst
with some unusually fine qualifications but one who, when he reached
a conclusion, became a passionate advocate of the total righteousness
of his own views. The pursuit of these views against all other possible
evidence and interpretations then became for him a cause to which he
dedicated himself ardently. While none of us achieve total objectivity,
the Adams personality is simply incompatible with our goal of performing
dispassionate analysis and interpretation. It would be a mistake to
consider him for reemployment.
-I'm sure 0 is unaware of the background. His suggestion
is gratuitous. I suggest the response be low-key and oral. We can
handle it if you prefer not to..
