SUBJECT : CIRIS/IMIS INTERFACE
1. On 8 August 1974,
of your staff and f Informatics to
discuss the CIRIS/IMIS interface.
2. had a series of questions which I promised to
obtain answers to as soon as possible. This memorandum contains
the answers to her questions. Would you please see that the infor-
mation is forwarded on to her.
3. In addition to answering I questions, I am also
attaching an up-to-date list of CIRIS input and internal computer codes.
An up-to-date. entity list will be sent to you as soon as
I Idata is received.
4. Please advise that she is correct in understanding
that you are unable to identify that portion of Milpay in the 2812
summary records that covers officers or enlisted men. The Milpay
dollar amount represents all military salaries combined. The same
applies to Civpay in the summary records. The figure represents
all civilian salaries and does not distinguish between one type of
civilian and another. However, this type of information is found in
the detail records. recognized this fact. In addition,
the detail records also distinguish one military service from another.
5. Secondly, as confirmed by only summary (2812)
and detail (2812A) dollar and manpower data is to be submitted on
magnetic tape by IMIS to CIRIS. Descriptive data (2812B) will

continue to be submitted on hard copy. When CIRIS data is trans-
mitted on magnetic tape to IMIS, descriptive data will be included
only when specifically requested by DIA. Standard labels should
be included on tape files in all cases.
6. VUPDATE field in the E (2812) and M (2812A) VIR
records (position 201) should be left blank. The field VFORMAT
(position 235) should contain an X. The field VERROR, (position 237)
should contain a blank. The field VSEQ-NO should begin with 010106
and ascend in consecutive order. The summary (E) records should
appear first in an entity followed by the detail (M) records. All records
should be in fiscal year order within their record group (E or M) with
the lowest fiscal year first.
7. The VSUB-ELEMENT field (position 209-210) should be blank.
The VAGENCY-NUM field (positions 232-233) should be given the
numeric representation (see attached codes) for the agency attached to
the Program Element number. The VPROC-SUBCODE should contain
a 0 whenever the function field (VFUN, position 18-23) is not processing
(02). When the function is processing, the VPROC-SU13CODE should
contain a 1. ~. _.
8. At a later date we will also furnish you with a GDIP/SRV
VIR file for testing of the CIRIS to IMIS interface. We would also like
to receive from you an IMIS to CIRIS test file when one. is available.
In the meantime, if I have any additional
questions, please have them contact me.
