SUBJECT Public Support for Intelligence
1. The attached comments concerning intelligence are
an excerpt from a speech on The Continuing Relevance of
NATO to U.S. Security Interests," which Major General Richard "t.
Yudkin, USAF Retired--now a Vice President of Owens Corning
Fiberglass at Toledo, Ohio--rave on 12 March at the World
Affairs Council of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
2. With the copy of the speech he sent me, Dick added
the following message
"Please note pg 10. There are points here that I
think your associates should push hard to have
others say in a wide variety of public contexts
Your area of activity is being hurt, and it is
slightly past time for the building of some counter-,,
fires. On a purely personal basis, I am working
to generate some additional interest.,.
3. It is understanding that General Laurie `Foratad-r -
former President and Chairman of the Board of Owens Corning
Fiberglass---is supporting General Yudkin in this approach.
4. 1 am assuming that the approach general Yudkin
takes in his speech is not a new idea to the DCI, but since
I am unaware as to what actions may already be under way
quietly to elicit public support, I thought the attached
would be of interest.
