Approved For ease 2064t'W'P/i3 Morning Meeting of 18 January 1967 8101800010049-4 18 January 1967 DD/I reported a formal request from Alain Enthoven for a study on the necessary elements of support for the North Vietnamese troops in South Vietnam. ORR has been given the action, and it ap- pears that the study can be completed without too much difficulty. DD/I called attention to the use of an unclassified CIA memo- randum in this morning's Evans and Novak column. Executive Director wondered whether Representative Lipscomb received a copy of this memorandum, and Houston said that he will check on this. Godfrey said there is not much to report on internal events in China beyond the CIB coverage but that there now appear to be rail outages in northwest China. With regard to the CIB item on Chile, Godfrey noted that Presi- dent Frei has not given up on his trip to the U. S. despite the action in the Senate, that he intends to pass the matter to the Lower House, and that in the event there is no subsequent reversal in the Senate, he might make the trip anyway. Kent reported that coordination of the changes the Director asked for in the language of the Cambodian Estimate appears to be going well. He will keep the Director informed. The Director discussed with Kent the possibility of DIA objections. reported that his conversation with =was satisfactory. 25X The lunch for is scheduled for 30-January. He will be submitting a guest list to the Director. DD/S called attention to a news item this morning on the replace- ment of Bill Crockett, Deputy Under Secretary of State for Administration, by Idar Rimestad, with whom he anticipates friendly relations. In reply to a question DD/I said that he thinks this year's session of the Ditchley Foundation is concerned with the future of the European community.
