DD/I reported that ADD/I and ADD/S&T attended a meeting of the Land Panel and got the distinct impression that the Panel is deter- mined to carry MOL through to birth. DD/I noted that he will be lunching with General Carroll to dis- cuss the strength figures exercise. DD/I advised that one casualty of the turmoil at Columbia Uni- versity has been a faculty vote against continuation of a CIA project in the International Affairs Institute. Godfrey reported that the student siege of the U. S. Embassy in Prague has ended. Godfrey noted that the Night Journal item on destalinization in Bucharest may have been overplayed in that the consensus of the analysts is that Ceausescu may be letting up on the throttle but it will be slight and controlled. Godfrey commented that Berlin Mayor Schuetz was stopped from passing through the corridor on the pretext of his formal position in the government of the Federal Republic. Warner advised that Congressman Riegle has requested a brief- ing on Soviet arms in the Middle East. Warner reported that the European Subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee has requested a briefing on the Philby and de Vosjoli affairs. Warner indicated that the Director's briefing of the House Special Subcommittee on National Defense Posture is now scheduled for 1330 on Wednesday, 1 May. Houston drew attention to a particularly scurrilous article by Mark Lane in the Los Angeles Free Press. Bross briefed on his discussion yesterday with General Carroll concerning TOD. DDCI asked that, in future ONE appreciations of pressures on Hanoi, ONE assess the possible effects of Hanoi's apprehension about renewed full-scale bombing in the North. DDCI advised that he will be visiting NSA this afternoon to address the graduating class of the National Senior Cryptologic Course. The Director asked the DD/P to have C/CI stand by to join in a discussion which he will be having with Deputy Under Secretary Bohlen next Monday.
