SUBJECT: Standby CORONA Satellites
REF:. USIB D-41. 15/23
CORONA satellite mission 9064 reverted to R-7 status on
2 April 1964 and will hold in that status until approximately
20 April. On that date, the launch pad must be recommitted
to. ARGON mission 9065A in response to the USIB requirement
for a May launch of that mission. Aside from that considera-
tion mission 9064 could remain in R-7 status for a much longer.
time.
? From 30 April onward, the currently expected availability
of assets permits sustaining a launch rate of one CORONA J per
month with simultaneous backup by a CORONA-J or M on R-7 status,
aside from unpredictable misfortunes. This situation also exists
from now until the 20 April date mentioned in paragraph 1. Between
20 and 30 April CORONA-J mission 1005 is scheduled to launch on
the 24th and CORONA-J mission 1006 is scheduled to reach R-7
status on 30 April.
The above activities are in addition to scheduled ARGON,
SIGINT, and.weather satellite operations during the coming
summer.
