Dear Doug:
Forgive me for not answering your 4 January letter long before
now.
On the documents, something has been garbled in trans-Pacific
transmission. For almost two years we have been quietly assembling
and processing (i . e . , checked and re-checked translation, essential
explanatory footnotes on obscure allusions to dates, events, or Party
names, etc.) a set of key Vietnamese Communist documents. This
project has been carried out under the overall management and
supervision of -- whose performance (as one would expect)
has been outstanding.
Thus you are correct in thinking that a set of key documents are
being/have been processed in non-polemical, standardized scholarly
format. But none of these -- let alone the set -- has yet been published
and none have been put on public sale.

We hope to get the series properly published by someone --
i.e. , under non-contentious sponsorship -- in the reasonably near
future. Until then, if you would like to know more about the series
or specific documents therein, please let me know.
