WASHINGTON. D.O. 20505
OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR
21 December 1973
Vice Admiral Vincent P. de Poix, USN
Director
Defense Intelligence Agency
Dear Vince:
After the long USIB on 20 December, I had to have
a working lunch with two gentlemen from the Treasury,
a lunch already res8heduled twice and, hence, most
awkward to change yet a third time. As a result, I
was regrettably unable to make the DIA Christmas party
before it had virtually ended.
I appreciated your invitation and wanted to attend
to share a seasonal libation with my valued DIA friends
and colleagues. I also wanted to say over the
wassail bowl how much I appreciate the support and
assistance I have received -- in two bureaucratic
incarnations -- from you and your associates over the
.past year. Our detailed approaches to certain issues
may differ as a function of our respective institutional
environments, but our problems are common ones and our
objectives identical. The efficient and effective
help I invariably received from DIA was invaluable in
discharging my former responsibilities and will be
essential in the execution of my new duties.
To you, then, to
and all of your associ one so much for me,
the Intelligence Community and, above all, the nation
we are all dedicated to serve, my great thanks and
heartiest best wishes for a splendid Christmas and a
successful New Year.
Sincerely yours,
George Carver, Jr.
Deputy for National Intelligence Officers
