Dear Sir:
imad.e an.extensive trip through the U.S.S.R. in. the year
1934 at which time I acquired, among other things:. a
geological map with. geographical and animal life
superimposed upon it.. Particularly,, it showed the
geography of animal life in. the entire Soviet Union'
Since the map has no strategic value., and,, assuming it can be
located, I wonder whether it may be located and presented
to the Friends-of the National Zoo? of which I am a
Founder Life Member.
The said map was mailed from either Harbin,: Manchuria,.
or Shanghai, China, by diplomatic messenger to the then
Office of Naval Intelligence.. It was 6-10 feet by 6-10
feet in size.
The map,, in my opinion,; will fit appropriately in the
new accelerated approach to the expanded. educational
values of the zoo..
Said map is. further timely by virtue of the accelerated interest
in matters relating to the U.S.S.R.
A meeting of the Board of Directors of Friends of the
National Zoo is scheduled for September next.
