Thank you for your good letter of 5 i'vr~ay 1959. H I ever made an
exception to my rule, I would certainly lira to make it for you. Un-
fortunately. I feel quite strongly that I uhould not. Once I have done
this, it is very hard to turn down other requests.
However. I should be trcen=.ously interested seeing you write
ce on the 3oviet's WFTI.4. I view this as one of the most dangerous
utoxnational Communist front organizations and I would be delighted
urn over to you the information on which you could write a piece far

you for your kind letter of 5 My 1959, giving
me an opportunity to p care a guest column on the subject
let's World Federation of Trade Unions.
I regret that I can't uadertake this, even though the
subject is one that should be brought more and more to the
American people. I am afraid that if I
much as it appeals to me, I would
ad at least be bothersome in

Mr. Allen W. Dulles

Dear Allen Dulles:
An old city editor of mine once told me Itd never get a really good
interview until I was turned down two or three times. So, here I
am again -- knowing that I write to you at a very trying moment.
Once more I thought I would ask you if you could do, what we refer
to around this shop as, a "guest column?" There may be a piece
lying around on the Soviet's World Federation of Trade Unions, which
would be terrific. Very few in this country now know the full mean-
ing of WFTU.
However, if there is any other subject that you would prefer to put
before the labor and industry people who follow my copy, that would
be fine, too.
Should this be possible, I would need some--800 words in the form of
column, or a statement, by June 15.
With warmest regards,
Victor Riesel

Col. Grogan
The DCI says he just can't undertake this.
He feels that if he does it for one he will
wind up having to do.the same thing for others.
Will you please prepare appropriate
letter of regret?
