Since receiving your letter of July 2 1, I have
received and have been reading Paul Pesters interesting
book on "Massive Retaliation." Foster consulted me at
the time he delivered his original speech on this subject
before the Council on Foreign Relations, and I am par-
ticularly interested in the able defense of this policy in
this book.
I only wish I could: et away from here to join
STAT you in the cool of We have had a hot and
muggy summer. Clover has been away at Henderson
Harbor in Northern New York, taking care of some of
the grandchildren. and I ama rather hoping to join her
there in about ten days.
Mott is still in Europe, after a trip through the
