HARRIS Trust and Savings BANK
May 12, 1958
Once again I have the pleasure and privilege of
extending to you a most cordial invitation to be our guest
of honor and speaker at one of our Seminars at the Graduate
School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin at Madison
late in the summer.
Each year previously we have been most unlucky in
choosing a time when you had planned to go abroad and I hope
this year that your plans may be different and your foreign
travel scheduled for another time of the year.
Our Seminar sessions are staged in the evening
from Monday, August 25, through Thursday, August 28, and
the following week from Monday, September 1, through Thurs-
day, September 4. We would, of course, want you to select
the evening which would be most convenient for you.
In addition to paying all your expenses from
Washington to Madison and return, the School would also
provide an honorarium of $500.00.
While we would not wish in any way to limit your
subject, I thought you might like to use some of the material
which you included in your last Chicago speech, with special
comments on the continuing Russian threat to world peace and
prosperity.
Airplane connections are readily available from
Washington to Madison and return, via Chicago, so that you
could be away a minimum of time. We would also hope that
you might combine a business stop in Chicago, which would
greatly minimize the loss of time to you.
We would. plan a dinner in your honor at the Madison
Club, to which we would invite outstanding local businessmen
and members of our faculty. It would also be my very special
pleasure to introduce you to our 1,100 banker students at the

You will recall that our good mutual friend,
Herbert V. Prochnow, is the Director of the School of
Banking, and. he joins me in the earnest hope that you
can be with us.
With best personal regards, I am
Sincerely yours,
John J. McDonough
