Dear Rosemary:
At long last I attach the famous letter
to "Vogue" to which, as I told you, I was never
honored with an answer. I fear that Miss Talaxey
is devoid of a sense of humor; but I know that you
have one.

Dear Miss Talmey:
I wish to acknowledge your kind letter of 24 January 1957,
enclosing a copy of a small photograph of Baroness Silvercruys
and the undersigned. For some time now, I have been preserv-
ing as an interesting memento the predecessor of that photo-
graph in which I am doubling for an eminent statesman, an old
friend of mine. When I met him the other day we had a good
laugh together, at your expense I fear, and he now has as a
memento the original production. I am sorry to have been
the unwitting cause of expense and trouble to you as I should
willingly have accepted the honored position of posing under
another name, particularly one so eminent.
In fact, I did not know the little picture was being taken.
If I had, following instructions received from excellent public
relations advisers, I would have hastily dissembled what
obviously was a well filled cocktail glass, and have closed
my mouth and returned the smile of the beautiful lady.
With renewed respect for the enterprise and agility of
your Indispensable publication, I remain
