I have been meaning to urrite to you for some time
now to tell you hour much it meant to me to see your name
in the group of signatures affixed to the National Testi-
monial Scroll which was recently presented to me.
I don't think I deserve a tenth of the praise your
testimonial gave me -- but I'm human enough, I confess,
to get a warm feeling from reading it and from scanning
the impressive list of signatures. It makes me feel both
very proud and very humble.
I'll never be able to express my gratitude adequately
to you and to your co-signers of the testimonial. But as
a very small token of my appreciation, I am sending you
this copy of the National Geographic Magazine, containing
an article on our recent Antarctic expedition.
