MEMORANDUM FOR GENERAL SMITH
We wrote Mr. Gordon Dean (AEC) on lit November 1950, with
reference to a previous request of 26 September for authorization
to disseminate "Type B Restricted Data" within CIA on a need-to-
know basis. Mr. Dean replied on 26 December, and indicated that
the problem of "Type All and "Type B Restricted Data" yeas being
reconsidered, Ile also noted that those CIA employees investigated
by the FBI could receive "Q" clearances without any appreciable
delay, and recommended that until such time as the problem of
"Type All and "Type B Restricted Data" was resolved, we process
CIA requests for "C"' clearance in accordance with established pro-
cedures.
Mr. Dean's letter has been sent to Colonel Edwards.
