MEKORANDUM FOR: DIRECTOR OF CFa.VTRAL INTELLIGENCE
SUBJECT: Reports of the Joint Nuclear Energy Intelligence
Committee
1. The Joint Nuclear Energy Intelligence Committee was
constituted as a working level group by a joint agreement,
dated 31 December 194.7, signed by Rear Admiral R. H. Hillen-
koetter, Director of Central Intelligence; Lieutenant General
S. J. Chamberlin, Director of Intelligence, U. S. Army; Rear
Admiral T. B. Inglis, Director of Naval Intelligence; and
Major General G. C. McDonald, Director of Intelligence, USAF.
Other members have been added since that time.
2. The estimates prepared by this group are of vital
importance to the national security of the United States.
3. It is recommended that all future reports of the JNEIC
be considered and acted upon by the IAC before finalization and
circulation, in order that the IAC members might have the
opportunity of fulfilling their respective responsibilities.
