I was very interested to hear that you were planning to go
to Washington in the near future with the intention of contacting
some high official personalities in the Government on the
subject of atomic studies and on the possibilities of collaboration.
Considering the studies that have already been undertaken
in Switzerland your idea seems to me of the utmost importance
and very much in our country$ s interest. I am, therefore,
quite prepared to give you all the necessary assistance within
my power, I do so all the more willingly as Professor Dr. P.
Scherrer, President of the Swiss Commission for Atomic Studies,
has assured me that he was looka-ng on your trip to the United
States with satisfaction and anticipating successful r e sult s there-
from with regard to the practical use of atomic energy for pacific
purposes, particularly in the industrial fields.
Would you be so kind as to let me know if, in any further stage,
you should wish me to lend you my assistance, either through the
Political Department in Berne or through the Swiss Legation in
Washington,
Needless to say, it would be very desirable if you would
inform me eventually of the results of your conversations. in
order to enable me to inform my Colleagues on the Federal
Council.

Thank you for sending me with your letter of
April 12, 1954 a copy of the letter of April 8, 1954
from Dr. Petitpierre, Federal Councillor. I have
written to Washington and requested that the appro-
priate officials be informed of your impending visit
and that you would like to talk to Mr. Allen Dulles e
and Mr. Lewis Strauss, I trust that you will encounter
no difficulty in making the arrangements to see thorn,
May I say once again how much I enjoyed my visit
to the Brown overi. plant last Thursday. It was in-
tensely interesting and I greatly appreciated the
trouble that had been taken to make my visit agreeable
and to explain things to me.
